Carpentry Hirschi, Switzerland

When carpenters rely on Lamello

Swiss carpentry specialist Hirschi uses the Clamex P-14 for roof window linings in classic everyday carpentry. It enables precise, solid mitre joints and significantly speeds up prefabrication. With this approach, Hirschi is able to maintain high quality standards whilst keeping production local and resource-efficient.

In the Emmental region, Hirschi is known for precision craftsmanship, strong local roots and sustainable timber construction. One key factor behind this quality is joinery. Whether in the workshop or on the construction site, the team consistently uses Lamello solutions when making roof window linings.

"The Clamex P-14 makes our work much easier," says carpenter Sven Wicki. "It gives us consistent clamping pressure across the entire mitre while saving us a lot of time."

Precision for individual roof geometries

Roof window linings - the interior finish around roof windows - are among the more demanding detail tasks in timber construction. Each roof has a different slope, and each mitre needs to be adapted accordingly. A clean, tight joint is crucial - both visually and functionally.

The team produces the required P-System grooves using the Zeta P2. "If the angle changes, we simply readjust the machine and continue milling. We don't need to make jigs, so we can stay flexible and work quickly," explains Wicki.

When visited, Sven Wicki was in the process of making roof window linings for a renovation project. In such cases, the interior cladding is fully prefabricated in the workshop first. Only then is it transported to the construction site. The Clamex allows the mitres to be pulled together precisely and glued tightly - a key requirement for ensuring the elements can be fitted on site without any rework.

In the case of new buildings, prefabrication goes one step further: here, Hirschi produces roof windows and roof window linings as complete units. These are then delivered to the construction site ready for installation. This consistent prefabrication principle saves time on site whilst at the same time ensuring a consistently high quality of execution.

Sealed joints thanks to glued Clamex

Although Clamex is designed as a removable connector, the Hirschi carpentry shop deliberately uses it in combination with glue for this application.

The reason lies in building physics: Gluing creates a particularly tight miter joint. This results in a vapor-barrier effect. This keeps everything dry even when there are temperature differences and the indoor air is humid—and the windows don’t fog up. “With Clamex, we can close the miter joint precisely while ensuring that the joint remains airtight. It works reliably and cleanly.”

Systematic Prefabrication

Hirschi Carpentry operates according to a clear principle: Anything that can be prepared in the workshop is fully prefabricated. Subsequent adjustments on the construction site are the exception.

The employees who manufacture a component are also responsible for its on-site installation later on. This end-to-end responsibility ensures high quality and efficient processes, even for projects outside the region.

Local, sustainable, well-thought-out

Together with its partner company Truberholz, Hirschi uses timber from local forests to create ecological solid-wood structures - without wood preservatives, without metal, and without adhesives in the load-bearing structure. Value creation deliberately remains in the region. The management firmly believes that modern technology and traditional craftsmanship go hand in hand.

"We believe Lamello is practical and well thought-out. The systems work reliably, they're quick to deploy, and they give us the precision we need on a day-to-day basis."

This example demonstrates that Lamello products are no longer just at home in the carpentry trade. They also have a key role to play in modern timber construction, contributing to efficient processes, precise fit and lasting quality.
