Lamello: the benchmark for joining

To kick off our tour of France, we had the pleasure of meeting Mr Bruno Marie and visiting his workshop, which is located in Normandy in the town of Houlgate, renowned for its typical "Belle Epoque" seaside architecture. Mr. Marie is a former "Compagnon du Devoir" (French association of craftsmen), and he founded the Marie joinery in 2003. He currently has 7 people working for him, including 3 other "Compagnons de Devoir" and 2 apprentices. It is a family-owned company that invested in digital about 8 years ago in order to specialise almost exclusively in manufacturing.

Around 90% of the Marie Company's business is subcontracting from large joineries, companies/groups and large fitters all over France. With its CNC equipment, the company has made the strategic choice to focus on production. "We have two digitally controlled machining centres - a 5-axis Rover A machine and a vertical Brema made by Biesse. Data is tranferred via the Biesse 3D CAD/CAM software, B_SOLID. Our workshop is capable of answering all kinds of requests (kitchens, fitted wardrobes, furniture, interior design, etc.)" says Bruno Marie. "Our strength is our responsiveness and our flexibility. That's what keeps us competitive in our field today."

Mr. Marie says: "That's clearly due to the quality of the work. There is an initial cost, but it has quickly paid for itself. The machining process is rapid and reliable. In terms of quality, we have no other products like Lamello for doing our assembly work. Moreover, the fact that we can deliver flat-packed products with elements pre-assembled on a pallet is a major advantage. This saves space in vans, so there is less bulk to dispatch. For us, it's essential."

Mr. Marie says: "We use the Cabineo connector (drilling system) especially for mass production due to lower costs. When it comes to production in small batches or on request, we use the Clamex connector from the P-System family. It's ideal because it is detachable, is virtually invisible and is fast to machine. For milling the Clamex profile groove on our CNC machines, we use a P‐System groove cutter. Using both these systems, we can satisfy virtually all of our customers' requests and also provide solutions for what are sometimes complex assemblies like mounting in small spaces. When you use Lamello, you can get in anywhere, so you can manage to assemble parts, even in restricted spaces."

Mr. Marie says: "In general, customer feedback is very good, because these two assembly systems mean that installation can be done with a minimum of personnel. As a matter of fact, we delivered to a carpenter a few months ago who did not know the Cabineo system at all; it was to fit out a bar. The company had expected the work to take a whole day with 2 people, but in the end, it only took them 3 hours. Their fitters now only want to do installation work with Cabineo."

Mr. Marie says: "For us, Lamello has become the benchmark for joining. These assembly solutions allow us to keep up with the changing needs of fitters and remain competitive. With constant product innovations, you are helping us with layout, which is vital for us."
