Pioneering spirit in cabinet making: Cabineo and digital transformation in the woodworking trade

Digitalisation presents the woodworking industry with major challenges. Whether in an industrial company or for a sole trader - the potential of successfully implemented digital transformation within the value chain is enormous. A successful example of this realised potential is the cabinet making business Holzvision - Füreder from Upper Austria. In our conversation, Managing Director Wolfgang Füreder explains the advantages of his digital workshop and the role played by the Cabineo cabinet connector from Lamello.
"If you want to produce modern products as a cabinetmaker, there is no way around Cabineo in my view."
Wolfgang Füreder, Managing Director

Founded by his father in 1979, Wolfgang Füreder runs the business in its second generation. In his father's company, Füreder learned the cabinet making trade in depth and encountered Lamello biscuit joiners and the original wooden biscuits for the first time. "I took on a lot of responsibility from a young age," explains Wolfgang Füreder. Alongside his woodworking profession, multi-talented Füreder is studying architecture. His impressive repertoire is rounded off by a successfully completed degree in business administration.

Holzvision – Füreder is active in the commercial sector and offers all sorts of residential furnishings. The carpentry company focuses on intellectual performance and individual design. From bespoke kitchens to complex interiors, Holzvision delivers quality at the highest level. "We are very creative and produce projects that are extremely demanding and difficult to accomplish. Customised production is a key sales promise for us," says Füreder. He adds: "We prefer not to keep reproducing variants of the same product. Unlike large furniture stores, we know our customers personally and help them in the realisation of their specific wishes."

To meet these highly complex requirements and still produce profitably, the company always invests in new technologies because, according to Füreder: "Those who don't invest die!" This is why the cabinet maker from Upper Austria invested into nesting technology and various software solutions at an early stage. Nowadays, networked production is an integral part of the value chain. Füreder emphasises the point: "Over the years, we have developed excellent skills in nesting technology and have become software experts. This is just what we do every day!"

An important piece of the puzzle within the digital production chain is the Cabineo cabinet connector from Lamello. "What makes the Cabineo so unique is the fact that you only have to clamp the workpiece once to carry out complete machining on both connection sides. This is a huge advantage because, on the one hand, it does away with the need for temporary storage and a secondary machining step, thereby saving time. Additionally, this eliminates inaccuracies through clamping the work piece a second time," explains Füreder.

He also points out the possibility of flat-pack delivery: "We often work with very large workpieces. Cabineo gives us the freedom to assemble the furniture at the construction site without having to worry about transport." Thanks to Cabineo, Holzvision – Füreder can overcome the challenges of individual projects where conventional connection systems fail. "If you want to produce modern products as a cabinetmaker, there is no way around Cabineo in my view," explains Füreder.

Switching to a new connector is always a risk and involves a great deal of effort. "Quality is extremely important to us. This is a characteristic that we share with Lamello and I am convinced that Lamello will continue to introduce products which meet this quality standard."

The transformation in the woodworking sector is unmistakable and companies such as Holzvision are playing a crucial role in this development. By using state-of-the-art technology to implement innovative concepts, they ensure that the cabinet making profession remains relevant and exciting in a digital world. Wolfgang Füreder is a prime example of how tradition and innovation can complement each other.
